How You Can Contribute
Hi! I’m Yeefah, an artist, advocate, and mentor. I study culture, identity, equity, behavior, belonging and social norms, with a focus on Africans in the diaspora and marginalized people. I use art to break barriers and open doors, allowing outsiders into new worlds. I create connections between the disconnected and give voice to the unheard. Over the years I have looked for opportunities to tell stories of Africans in the Diaspora.
This year, I found and was accepted to a residency that is the perfect vessel for me to connect the dots and explore, learn, and discover how and why the dominant culture came to claim works and history as their own. This residency will allow me to shine the light on our disconnected history and rediscover, reimagine, and tell the stories of our paths post-slavery. I will be able to reveal details of the lives of a little-known group of Africans in the diaspora: Afro Mexicans.
You can be a part of bringing my research to light. Your collective contributions of $20,000 will enable me to unite communities that have been torn apart by colonization; and bridge the gap between those voices that are seen and heard and those that are ignored. Whether your contribution is small or large doesn’t matter. What matters is that you are contributing to understanding, growth, and change.
